The indoor garden
Groundplan and first level
The concrete bearing structure had to be respected and next to the building there was a big garden and park. A big indoor garden is the hard of the building. Around the garden are the different functions situated where the garden is the main connector. For the more private function such as the offices there are separately blocks, free standing from the old concrete structure. The design contains different bottom-up elements, for example the shop, with can be used by people from the neighbourhood and a restaurant that can be working together with the "Voedselbank" (an institution where food is disturbed to poor people). Finally the sunlight that is falling inside the building by the big windows in the southern facade, is blocked in a natural way by a vertical garden connecting the building with the next door park/garden.
